Healthy Penne Pasta

Serves 4 to 6

  • 1 jar Organico Bello Tomato Basil pasta sauce
  • 1 lb. lean ground beef
  • 1/4 cup onion, chopped
  • 1 16 oz. package of penne pasta
  • 1-2 cups mozzerella cheese
  • 1 cup Pecorino Romano cheese, grated
  • 1 tsp. basil leaves, whole or chopped

Preheat oven to 350. Cook pasta al dente, drain, and set aside. In a large skillet, slightly brown beef on medium heat until granulated. Add chopped onion. Continue cooking beef and onions for 6 to 8 minutes, until beef is brown and onion becomes translucent. Stir in Organico Bello Tomato Basil pasta sauce. Reduce heat and allow to simmer for about 10 minutes. Take 1 cup of sauce mixture and stir it into the cooked penne to prevent it from sticking. Pour half of the penne mixture into a baking dish, spreading evenly. Sprinkle with 1 ½ cups mozzarella cheese and ½ cup Pecorino Romano cheese. Top with 2 cups sauce. Repeat  layers, except for the cheese, and cover with the remaining sauce. Cover dish with aluminum foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove from oven, uncover, and top with remaining mozzarella and Pecorino Romano cheese. Return to oven and bake uncovered for 10 minutes or until cheese is fully melted.

Pasta is low in sodium and cholesterol, making it a filling and healthy part of a balanced diet.
